Learning to read

We are working on literacy with Layla.

It's so neat to be the one who is teaching her to read.  Until now all the skills she has mastered have been natural, eg: walking, talking, using a bathroom ect.

This one is different on a few levels.
1:not everyone eventually learns to read.
2: Reading is so important to me, humanities most beautiful toughs are expressed though writing,  Reading is what keeps me sane and brings me so much pleasure.   It's the vacation or adventure I have when I cant go anywhere.  It's the other life I never lived.  it's the complex thoughts that make me change.
I can't wait to share the universe of the written word with her.
I love being a part of the progression and watching her get better every day.
This has been one of the more rewarding parts of motherhood

We play this game she calls stories.
I printed off 10 simple words. a good mix of sight words and words that can be sounded out phonetically   I told her what each word was.  I  ask her to build a particular sentence.
When she gets the sentence right, she would draw a picture to go with the sentence.

i know i love your posts!!

go layla! i'm so grateful that my parents pushed reading at young age. i was reading (basic stuff) when i entered kindergarten. my parents read to us every single night before bed, which instilled in me a love of learning and reading. i can't wait to do the same for my babies .
